The surf coast or Bali's dining town? A side-by-side guide to the two neighbours on the west coast, and where Pererenan and Berawa fit.
Choose Canggu for surf, cafés, rice fields between the houses and room to spread out. Choose Seminyak for restaurants, boutiques and beach clubs you can walk to, and a shorter run to the airport. They are neighbours on the same coast, so if you cannot decide, split the stay.
Black-sand beaches with surf for every level, beach clubs at Berawa and Echo Beach, serious coffee, and villas set among the rice fields. Best for surfers, groups and longer stays.
Bali's best-known restaurants, beach clubs and boutiques within a few blocks, and a long beach for sunset. Best for first-timers, food lovers and anyone who wants to walk to dinner.

*From our Bali Villa Price Index of 22 September 2026: the median nightly rate quoted for a night in mid-November 2026, and the range of the middle half of villas. Its Canggu figure takes in Pererenan, Berawa and Seseh. On villas that publish seasonal rates, high season runs about 30% above low season in both areas.
Canggu used to be rice paddies and a handful of surf shacks, and the paddies are still there between the houses. The day starts early: a paddle at Batu Bolong, a gentle beach break for beginners and longboarders, or at Echo Beach, a little further up the coast, where the reef suits stronger surfers. Then coffee, and plenty of it.
The beach clubs sit on the sand: Finns at Berawa, La Brisa at Echo Beach, built from old fishing-boat timber, and The Lawn at Batu Bolong. The beaches are black volcanic sand with strong currents, so most guests swim in the villa pool and keep the beach for surf and sunsets. The roads are the trade-off: slow at rush hour, which is why many people pick one end of Canggu and stay there. Browse villas in Canggu →
Pererenan is Canggu's quieter north-western edge, just up the coast from Echo Beach: a black-sand surf beach, rice fields running to the road, and a new run of restaurants. On paper it is a village of its own, in Mengwi district, but everyone calls it Canggu. Choose it if you want Canggu at a lower volume. Villas in Pererenan →
Berawa is the polished south-eastern end, where Canggu meets Seminyak's side of the coast: Finns and Atlas within walking distance of many villas, paved roads, gyms and cafés. Choose it if you want the beach clubs on your doorstep, and Seminyak's restaurants a short drive away. Villas in Berawa →
For a group of fourteen, Ocean Palm Estate in Pererenan has seven bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and terrace, and is booked as a whole estate; our large-group villas gather the other big houses.
Seminyak is flat, walkable and dense with places to eat. From a villa around Petitenget or off the Oberoi strip you can walk to dinner, to a beach club and onto the sand for sunset without a driver. The beach clubs that made the area's name — Potato Head, Ku De Ta, La Plancha — sit along the beach, and the boutiques run inland from it.
North of Petitenget, Batu Belig is quieter, with some villas opening onto the sand, and it runs into Berawa. The trade-off is energy: Seminyak is busy, and in peak season the main roads move slowly. If you want everything within reach, nowhere on the west coast does convenience better. Browse villas in Seminyak →
Canggu and Seminyak share a coast, so a week splits easily: a few nights in walkable Seminyak to arrive, eat and settle in, then a few in Canggu for the surf and the quiet. One team arranges both villas and the transfer between them.
